Tesco is bringing forward the time of the earliest slots available for same-day delivery, in what it described as a “market-leading move for a UK supermarket”.
Shoppers booking a slot before 8.45am can now select home delivery slots from 1pm and click & collect slots from midday. Previously, the soonest same-day home delivery slot was 7pm and, for click & collect, 4pm.
The earlier same-day options are available from more than 400 larger stores across the UK. The supermarket said the move meant its same-day slots were “at least four hours earlier than the earliest slot offered by any other full-line retailer”.
Customers follow the same booking process – with the newly available slots showing on the booking page, with the option to place or amend their order by 8.45am on that day.
“We are excited to have rolled out more same-day opportunities for customers to get an online slot,” said Tesco online MD Tom Denyard, “offering customers more spaces – and therefore more flexibility – than ever before.
“This allows them to book closer to their delivery or collection time and therefore improve our market-leading customer experience,” he added.
Same-day slots are included as part of Tesco’s Anytime Delivery Saver plan – which costs £7.99 a month – and its Click+Collect Delivery Saver plan (£2.49 a month), but Off Peak plans and Pay As You Go customers will need to pay the slot price. There is an additional surcharge – £2 for Home Delivery and £1 for click & collect for all customers to book a same-day slot, which is already in place.
