Tesco says it is working “as hard as possible” to restore services to thousands of broadband customers who have been without a connection for a large part of today.

The retailer confirmed that many customers had lost services since around midday although it stressed that not all of its 75,000 customers were affected.

Tesco is due to transfer its services to Talk Talk later this year, but it said that the issue had nothing to do with the changeover, which it pointed out had not yet begun.

“Some customers are experiencing network problems,” said a Tesco spokeswoman. “This is not related to the migration of customers to TalkTalk. We are liaising with our network partner to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible and apologise to any customers affected for the inconvenience.”
