Tesco delivery drivers staged another three-day walk-out this week after negotiations between Eddie Stobart and union Unite failed to progress.

The 183 drivers who face redundancy at Tesco’s Doncaster DC began a second 72-hour strike at midnight on Tuesday. The walk-out follows a three-day strike last week and means the drivers have been on strike for eight days since Eddie Stobart gave them 90 days’ notice of potential redundancies.

Stobart MD David Pickering wrote to the drivers on Friday in a letter urging them to ask their representatives to return to the table.

“The industrial action has achieved nothing, other than to take money out of the pockets of drivers and put jobs and financial packages in jeopardy,” said Mr Pickering.

“The union seems intent on continued industrial action and playing this out in the media, rather than consulting and negotiating on behalf of the drivers.”

But Unite regional officer Harriet Eisner said Pickering had rejected an invitation to a branch meeting last week.

“The union is committed to getting round the table and finding a resolution to this,” she said.
