Soil and Seed - the exclusive-to-Tesco organic fruit and veg box delivery brand - has launched, following a glitch over the weekend, which saw boxes being offered at introductory prices of up to 80% more than the standard cost of a box.
Available now through the Tesco website, small, medium and large veg boxes are available for the (now correct) introductory prices of £9, £13.50 and £18. However, on Monday, the retailer was advertising those prices as the introductory prices, with the standard prices per box listed as £5, £10 and £15 respectively.
A medium fruit box is available for £10.80 and a large mixed fruit and veg box is on sale for £19.80 (the usual prices had been advertised at £10 and £15 respectively).
In a statement to The Grocer, Tesco admitted the prices for Soil & Seed boxes were “temporarily incorrect on the website” but a spokeswoman confirmed the problem had since been fixed. “We will honour these lower prices with any customers who ordered boxes while the error was being fixed”, she added.
The Soil & Seed website has also launched, which contains information about the boxes available and the growers as well as recipes.
The Grocer reported Tesco’s forthcoming re-entry into the organic box delivery market, after several years’ absence, last month. At the time, Tesco said the scheme would see it work with its organic farmers to distribute high quality veg across the capital. “As always at Tesco, the scheme will offer great value for money,” a spokeswoman said at the time.
The move has been welcomed by the Soil Association, the Organic Trade Board as well as Riverford Organic.
