Tesco is donating almost £250,000 to LGBTQ+ charities whose fundraising has been hit by the pandemic.
A long-standing supporter of Pride events, the supermarket said the money was a sign it was committed to marking the occasion for customers and colleagues despite events being cancelled again this year because of the pandemic.
Tesco will make donations of £80,000 each to The Albert Kennedy Trust, which helps young LGBTQ+ people who are homeless or living in hostile conditions, Bi Pride UK, which supports people who experience attraction beyond gender, and the Terrence Higgins Trust, supporting people living with HIV.
“We’re delighted that we’re able to help three fantastic charities again this year – who provide such valuable support to the LGBTQ+ community – as we continue working towards a safer, equal future,” said Andrew Yaxley, Booker CEO and executive sponsor of LGBTQ+ at Tesco.
