Tesco has launched a range of Tesco Finest wagyu steaks into more than 100 stores.

The supermarket said the additions to its Finest Steakhouse range offered unparalleled flavour marbling, and tenderness.

The range was “perfect for steak connoisseurs and home cooks looking to elevate mealtimes”, it added.

The range includes four cuts: Tesco Finest Wagyu Ribeye (rsp: £14.50/250g), Tesco Finest Wagyu Sirloin (rsp: £14/250g), Tesco Finest Wagyu Fillet (rsp: £16/200g), and Tesco Finest Wagyu Rump (rsp: £10/250g).

“We know our customers are increasingly looking for high-quality, restaurant-style meals they can conveniently cook at home, and we wanted to offer something really special,” said Jamie Robinson, executive chef at Tesco. “By expanding our wagyu offering as part of our Tesco Finest Steakhouse range, we’re bringing an exceptional level of quality to more people at a price point that feels more accessible.”

The supermarket said searches for wagyu were up 87% year on year on Tesco.com.

Tesco said it was working with British farmers to develop the range to make the steak more accessible to UK shoppers, while still offering great value.

The launch comes one week after Aldi announced a long-term partnership with Warrendale Wagyu worth around £320m over the next five years. The partnership promised to ensure greater financial security for the supplier and the 800 farmers within its supply chain, Aldi said.
