Tesco is to target 35,000 schools and clubs with its new multi-million pound corporate social responsibility scheme, Tesco Sport.
As first revealed by The Grocer last month, the initiative, which was officially announced today by marketing director Tim Mason, will be a voucher scheme similar to Sainsbury’s Active Kids offering free sports equipment.
Mason, who was accompanied by sport stars Gaby Logan, Paula Radcliffe and Jason Robinson, said it was simply the sporting version of its long-running Computers for Schools scheme.
Customers will receive one voucher for every £10 they spend in supermarkets and one voucher for every £5 spent in an Express store.
According to Mason, 16 vouchers will earn a school one skipping rope, while 6,932 vouchers will be needed for the basic version of its foldaway five-a-side goalposts.
Vouchers can also be redeemed against coaching session, with a chance to win a visit from Radcliffe, Robinson and footballer Frank Lampard.
