Tesco has adapted its online shopping service to cater for blind and partially sighted people, enabling another two million customers to buy goods from Tesco.com.
Tesco collaborated closely with the Royal National Institute for the Blind to create a text based system using page reading synthesised speech software.
As a mouse is moved over the screen, a computer synthesised voice reads out the text. For the visually impaired, there are versions of the site featuring larger text.
Tesco.com delivery drivers will be given visibility awareness training to help them assist blind or partially sighted customers better.
