Tesco-owned health food business NutriCentre has scrapped almost 80% of its range, as it becomes the latest part of the retailer’s empire to undergo streamlining.
NutriCentre, which had boasted the largest range of health products in Europe, has slashed its range from 26,000 products to 6,000 under the move, part of Project Reset.
Tesco, which acquired a majority share of the business more than a decade ago and had earmarked it for rapid growth under former CEO Philip Clarke, has also stopped selling NutriCentre products on its Tesco Direct website.
NutriCentre has 45 stores, many of them within Tesco Extra stores, with the first opening in 2002 at Tesco’s West Kensington flagship.
Gervase Fay, head of product at NutriCentre, said it had spent six months on the reset, which would “focus on only selling brands and products that offer the nutritional integrity the business can stand behind”.
“Our range reset has been a crucial aspect to this,” she added. “We also believe in making the in-store experience as easy as possible for customers to access our knowledge.”
