Tesco CEO Dave Lewis has revealed a new management line up in the wake of the crisis over its £263m accounting scandal and, temporarily at least, is taking over day to day leadership of the UK operation.
Under the new team Jason Tarry, formerly head of clothing at Tesco, becomes head of commercial for the UK and the Tesco group, having been standing in for former UK head of commercial John Scouler since his suspension, along with seven other top executives.
Robin Terrell, former online boss at the retailer who had stood in for another of the so called “Cheshunt 8”, UK MD Chris Bush, moves to a new role as Tesco’s head of customer, with no news yet on whether there will be a new dedicated digital chief.
Tesco said former Unilever veteran Lewis would personally oversee the UK operation, although signalled he would be looking to appoint a new UK boss next year.
The shake-up also sees further departures from Tesco, following the reports last week that Scouler, group commercial director Kevin Grace and former UK finance director Carl Rogberg had left the company for good, having been asked to step aside as the investigation into the accounting scandal continues.
Tesco said the new structure meant there was no longer a role for chief creative officer Matt Atkinson or group business planning and strategy director David Hobbs, neither of whom were among the Cheshunt 8..
Meanwhile one of the eight, head of food sourcing Matt Simister, is to return to his old role as of 8 December.
Under the changes, which come into effect on 1 January, Tesco Bank chief Benny Higgins will take on responsibility for group strategy in addition to his role leading Tesco Bank and international financial services business.
Jill Easterbrook, chief customer officer will lead the business transformation programme at the retailer.
Rebecca Shelley will continue to head of corporate communications, while the investor relations team will operate under new Group CFO Alan Stewart.
