There has been a lot of movement in the fascia chart this week with Sainsbury continuing its rise up the chart knocking Tesco off the top spot. Tesco has slipped down to fourth spot with both Morrisons and Somerfield climbing ahead of Tesco on the back of numerous price promotions on alcoholic drinks.
Culinary and alcoholic drinks are the big movers in the category chart, both leapfrogging health and beauty.
Alcoholic drinks has been boosted by various promotions throughout the retailers found on gondola ends and floor stacks.
Confectionery has been squeezed out of the top five by soft drinks and snacks, largely due to promotions running on Coca-Cola and Walkers crisps, but with Christmas just around the corner we can expect to see confectionery back in the top five soon.
Mars’ reign at the top of the brand chart has lasted just one week with Heinz storming up five places fuelled by promotions running on its soup ranges. Price promotions and multibuy offers have been used across accounts on the Heinz range to obtain top spot in the chart.
Mars slips to number two and on the back of the new Christmas activity and Terry’s drops into the chart at number four with its chocolate orange on promotion across the stores. Pringles and Coca-Cola continue to have lower levels of promotional activity but still remain within the top 10. Just missing out on the top 10 this week is Danone Shape Yogurt which, despite a number of promotions with extra space in Tesco and Morrisons, just failed to do enough to force its way.
In the own label category chart frozen slips to number two as household takes up pole position. Soft drinks and cakes/biscuits remain in the top five.
