Tesco will open its first store in Taiwan six months earlier than originally planned, following the acquisition of a retail outlet in the country's largest shopping mall. The store was purchased from Dutch group Makro Asia, which is shifting its attention from retailing to wholesaling.
Tesco said it would keep on 150 existing staff and employ a further 400 for the 100,000 sq ft superstore, due to open in December.
Tesco plans to open a further 19 stores in Taiwan over the next five years.
