Tesco has launched a scheme to recruit ex-military personnel and help them adjust to life on Civvy Street.

So far, more than 30 ex-Army, Royal Navy and RAF personnel of all ranks have joined Tesco in a variety of roles under the scheme, which was developed by Tesco with support from The Career Transition Partnership and the MoD.

Former Royal Artillery Captain Alastair Williamson is now store manager at Tesco in Elmers End, Kent. “I served in the Parachute Regiment and the Royal Artillery for eight years,” he said. “You come away from an army career with strong qualities such as drive, motivation and team-working skills.”

Hayley Tatum, personnel director at Tesco, said: “People leaving the armed forces offer us a new and exciting source of talent with many of the strengths and qualities that we value.”
