Tesco to extend coronavirus bonus payments to frontline staff

Tesco has announced it is extending a coronavirus bonus to staff on the supermarket frontline, for at least another month.

The supermarket giant announced last month a 10% bonus for colleagues across its stores, distribution centres and customer engagement centres, including managers.

The bonus is backdated to 6 March and will now run until Saturday 30 May.

Tesco said the bonus was in recognition of the “unprecedented” challenge facing its staff during the outbreak.

UK CEO Jason Tarry said Tesco staff had faced “enormous challenges” since the outbreak began.

A Tesco spokeswoman said: “We are extending our 10% bonus for permanent frontline colleagues for a further four weeks in recognition of their support and contribution during this busy time.”
