Tesco is planning to develop a state of the art training academy which will be open to all grades of staff.
Learning director Kim Birnie said the college will provide first rate training facilities for all Tesco staff.
"The Tesco Academy is still in development and I can't reveal much at the moment," she added.
"Staff are aware of it, think it's a great idea and are proud that we are making this commitment of time and money."
Birnie said Tesco studied other organisations' training facilities, including those of companies such as Motorola and GE.
The college is expected to be up and running sometime next year. A virtual supermarket will be included.
