Tesco beat Waitrose and Sainsbury to walk away with the best supermarket accolade at this year's Vegetarian Society awards.
The awards were voted for by a panel including celebrity chefs Richard Cawley and Rose Elliot and singer Hazel O'Connor following nominations from members of the public.
Tesco product developer Eleanor Scott said the multiple was delighted by the recognition. "It is an important category for us and one we intend to develop.
"We will be looking to introduce point of sale material in the new year to promote the fact we have won this endorsement."
Best independent retailer was online retailer Veganstore, which beat London's Fresh & Wild and Unicorn Grocery in Manchester. In the product categories Goodlife's Falafels took best new food product. Swedish Glace was awarded best dessert. Golden Promise pipped Pete & Johnny's Smoothies and Purdey's to win best beverage category.
