Tesco claims it is the first multiple retailer to stock UK-grown asparagus in 2010.
The asparagus (rsp: £2.00 for 125g), supplied by S&A Davies in Great Witley, Worcester, went into Tesco’s Evesham store on Thursday and is now being rolled out nationally.
“It’s great news that we’ve been able to deliver first for our customers this year,” said senior buying manager Mark Grant.
“2009 saw our biggest UK asparagus campaign to date [and] we are confident that by offering customers the UK crop as soon as its ready we can build upon last year’s success and make 2010 even bigger,” said Tesco asparagus buyer Nicola Jamieson.
Tesco is planning a number of promotions throughout the British asparagus season, which traditionally starts on 1 May.
