A leading fuel supplier partly owned by Tesco is considering a move for the 500 forecourts put up for sale by Total.

Greenergy, in which the UK’s largest supermarket has a minority stake, sells more than 140 million litres of fuel every week. It has annual revenues of £2.8bn.

The company is now eyeing a move for the hundreds of petrol stations recently put up for sale by Total, which earlier this month announced plans to pull out of the UK market.

Total’s decision to sell the forecourts came just two months after rival Murco was put up for auction by its US parent, Murphy Oil.
