While taking a break in ex-pat magnet Malta, one of our eagle eyed reporters thought she'd stumbled on a scoop when her guidebook said that the local supermarket was run by Tesco.

The store boasted an outdated Tesco sign, and British brands on the shelves, which suggested it was time for Tesco to come clean about its secret Maltese outpost. Sadly, on return to GB, Tesco slipped the net, admitting it had supplied Nicholsons up until two years ago, but has had no contact since.
