Tesco’s Price Promise scheme looks set to be launched in England, Scotland and Wales from 11 March.
The move, a major reboot of the troubled scheme launched by Tesco in February 2011, which was eventually made online only, would launch a new phase in the supermarket price wars.
Unlike Sainsbury’s Brand Match, the Tesco Price Promise compares the price of both branded and own-label products, with customers given a voucher to make up the difference, capped at £10.
The Grocer reported in November that the trial of the scheme in Northern Ireland was set to be extended to the rest of the UK if it was deemed successful.
“We’re continually looking for new ways to help our customers keep the cost of their shopping down,” said a Tesco spokeswoman, although she would not be drawn on the rollout date.
