A Marca Bravara
From: Halewood International

Brewed in Brazil and imported directly to the UK, A Marca Bravara is made from premium hops and select barley. Part of a proud brewing tradition dating back to 1877, the drink is meant to be enjoyed ice cold.

Price: £1.49 for a 330ml bottle

Call me churlish, but I don’t trust a drink that tries really hard to look like something you discreetly take to the doctors if your bladder’s being tested.

Unfortunately, Bravara looks like it, smells like it, and the taste follows suit.

The name suggests the bravado required for anyone to have a second round of this insipid brew; or indeed the risk the producer is taking given the smoother, fuller flavour of even the budget label competitors out there.

It’s over-priced and I find it hard to believe they drink this on the streets of Brazil.

It would, however, be the kind of beverage served up in the nightmarish world of Terry Gilliam’s film of that name.

Needless to say, I would not buy this again.

A Marca Bravara lager is a 4.5% Brazilian lager launched in the UK by Halewood Vintners.

The brewery in Brazil is owned by Canadian brewer Molson which is one of the largest brewers in North America.

The presentation of Bravara is excellent. The bottle is quite different from other lagers in the marketplace. The label is around the neck rather than on the front of the bottle as is the norm.

After the excellent presentation, the taste is quite disappointing. The pale coloured lager has no real taste and is almost watery with a chemically smell.

I think Bravara will need some heavyweight marketing support to make any headway in a marketplace full of big name brands like Stella Artois and Budweiser.
