Welsh supplier Castle Dairies has expanded its The Butterworks brand with a new spreadable 250g variant made with West Country butter and Cornish sea salt.
Available in Waitrose now, The Butterworks’ West Country Spreadable (rsp: £2.15/250g) is churned and hand salted to produce spreadable butter straight from the fridge.
It is made using West Country cream from Red Tractor assured farms, Cornish sea salt and British rapeseed oil. The brand said the NPD boasted a particulary high butter content to create a “creamy texture”.
“We have identified with Waitrose a gap in the market for a high-quality spreadable which is produced in the UK from West Country butter and Cornish sea salt,” said David Cooknell, head of sales at The Butterworks.
“The development of this new product seemed like a very natural extension in the range to our already very successful West Country block butter.
Lisa Oaten, Waitrose partner and buyer – milk, cream, butters and spreads, said: “We’re delighted to be launching this new West Country spreadable from the Butterworks in store, and are especially pleased to be the first supermarket to be able to bring this new premium branded spreadable to our customers.”
This is the second product from The Butterworks to be stocked at Waitrose, following the launch of its block butter with Cornish sea salt crystals.
