North Wales butcher Edwards of Conwy has secured a listing with The Co-op Group for its range of sausages and burgers.
The listing will see Edwards products listed in more than 160 Co-op Group stores across Wales, with an estimated 1.5 million sausages expected to be supplied to the retailer during 2016. As a result of the deal. three extra jobs are set to be created at the Edwards factory in Conwy, on top of its existing workforce of 60 staff, while the supplier expects sales to increase by 15%.
“It’s great news, very exciting and our first contract of this scale with a convenience retailer,” said Edwards of Conwy MD Simon James. “This opens up new and important markets for us.”
Edwards of Conwy was a “great Welsh success story”, said The Co-op Group’s ranging manager for Wales Simon Dryell.
“We both have a heritage of supporting our communities along with a passion for great food so we are delighted to be working closely with them,” he added. “Our convenience stores are located in the heart of Welsh communities and this is a further step in the Co-op’s commitment to offering more locally sourced produce conveniently.”
Edwards already has listings with the mults across Wales and with Ocado, and secured its first listing outside its heartland last April when its products went into Tesco stores across Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire.
