The Co-operative Group has just one distribution centre left to sell after offloading its Halesowen RDC to Dawn Meats.
The society has been overhauling its entire food distribution network since 2007 - replacing more than 30 small depots with larger, regional ‘super distribution centres’.
The 99,000 sq ft Halesowen site was closed when the society opened its new £22m, 500,000 sq ft Midlands distribution centre at Castlewood in April 2013. Its Alfreton site, in Derbyshire, is still on the market.
“This is our 11th major freehold industrial property sale since 2013 and leaves only one freehold property remaining from our legacy distribution estate,” said Geoff Player, director of commercial & investment property for The Co-operative Estates.
“We have capitalised on the demand for large second-hand industrial space driven by the lack of speculative development over the last five to six years.”
Dawn Meats MD Isla Roebuck added: “This property addition represents an excellent value alternative for freezing, distribution and storage of our products.”
