It was back to school for thousands of children - but not back to school dinners as they knew them last term. Turkey twizzlers and fizzy drinks are now off the menu as the government's drive to tackle childhood obesity by improving standards in school canteens kicks in. Not everyone in the industry is taking the news lying down, it seems. The British Potato Council is apparently set to send teams of "Chippiedales" into the classroom in an attempt to woo children into trying potato products, according to The Sunday Times. And as if that's not exciting enough, the UK's schoolchildren can also look forward to earning a licence to grill, according to the Daily Mail, which ran the story about the government's latest drive to encourage healthy eating. Maybe they will learn how to cook up some of the weird and wonderful products written about in The Daily Telegraph and Daily Express. The Telegraph followed up on our story about the new collectors' edition of Stinky French Garlic Spam, which is set to hit the supermarket shelves at the end of the month. Meanwhile Goji berries were the order of the day for The Daily Express. Apparently these potent little red fruits fight cellulite, combat cancer and boost your sex drive and are due to be stocked in selected Tesco stores from this week. The Times added to the bizarre fruit and veg theme with its story on monster cabbages and 37-inch cucumbers at the UK giant vegetable championship in Shepton Mallet.
