Tryton Foods says its Aunt Bessie's brand made over 400 million Yorkshire puddings last year and helped raise the market to almost £60m. Its latest venture is an organic version. It has acquired a flock of 5,000 chickens to ensure a consistent supply of organic eggs.
Shearway aims to create a new premium fruit category in the freezer with the introduction of two fruit mixes. The luxury mix combines apple, melon, pineapple, orange, grapes and mango with Camarosa strawberries, a variety that's particularly suitable for freezing. The pineapple, melon and mango mix uses very sweet varieties of fruit. Rsp for the half kilo packs is £2.29.
With demand for shellfish products growing, the Seafood Company has opened a new factory in Cromer to produce premium seafood in frozen and chilled formats. This month it has launched frozen Snow Crab Meat, a Greenland sourced delicacy for seafood cocktails, sandwiches and luxury dishes. Rsp is £2.99 for a 100g pot.
Christian Salvesen Foods is aiming to re-energise the moribund frozen vegetable sector. It is targeting the growing number of one and two person households with Select, a range of multipacks offering vegetables and rice in 115g/200g sachets. Containing two sachets of each of three vegetable or rice varieties, the multipacks offer choice and convenience without the need to fill the freezer with several large, bulky packs. The company will also offer limited editions and seasonal vegetables.
Demand for premium frozen continental bakery is growing, according to Swiss gourmet baker Hiestand which says its British arm is on course to achieve a turnover of £3m after three years in the UK. Hiestand, which makes premium frozen speciality bread, croissants and pastries, operates in 10 countries following its recent acquisition of Gerd Suhr in Germany and Fleury Michon Pologne in Poland.
Sco-Fro Foods' new value-added' plant in Fort William, Scotland, is producing frozen seafood starters and fish in sauces under the convenience foods brand So Special, as well as own label for the multiples. The So Special range recently won a Seafood Prix d'Elite award for best retail packaging at the Brussels European seafood exhibition.
