Vegan food brand The Happy Pear has recalled several of its houmous products in Northern Ireland over fears they may be contaminated with animal matter.

It has recalled specific batches of five of its houmous products, as a batch of chickpeas which were used in them is subject to recall due to the possible presence of animal matter.

The Happy Pear has urged consumers who have purchased the impacted products not to consume them but return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation,” the notice states.

When approached by The Grocer, a spokeswoman for The Happy Pear said the brand was “working closely with the chickpea supplier, stockists and food safety authorities”.

“Our customers’ health and safety remain our highest priority, and we will continue to monitor and update as necessary,” she said.
