Britvic is aiming to put some extra fizz into the children's soft drinks market with a launch which has been three years in the making.
Bidding to build on the success of Britvic's £30m-a-year Fruit Shoot kids' brand, Freekee Soda contains a carbonated mix of milk, fruit juice and water to create what the company claims is a new category in soft drinks "texture-based fizz".
The newcomer, which comes in Strange Strawberry' and Odd Orange' flavours, is set to be backed by a £6.25m launch package and will go into multiples in a multipack format from the end of March. Andrew Marsden, category director at Britvic, said: "This is a different type of soft drink. It will tap into a whole new profit opportunity for retailers."
Britvic is particularly hoping that the brand will grab a share of, and add to, the £280m children's self-purchase market. The company said consumer research with its target audience showed that children would not be put off by the brand's 62p (330ml) price tag.
Rsp for a multipack of four drinks will be around £2.09. Britvic will attempt to reassure mums of the drinks' health-giving properties by pointing out that they have no added sugar.
