Manchester could soon become home to a massive dining out and retail complex, at a 200,000 sq ft plot in an old factory.
The plan is the brainchild of local business The Very Inc, which operates the city’s California-style restaurant and bar The Firehouse, housed in a former warehouse, and pizzeria and live music venue Ramona in an old MOT test station.
It has now turned its attention to the former Presbar Diecastings factory located between Manchester’s Store Street and Ducie Street. Dating back to 1870, it was once one of Manchester’s largest factories.
Under the The Very Inc’s proposals, the site would include an artisan bakery, deli, brewery and beer hall, and serve street food cooked on a wood grill. Space would be made available for independent shops, while a night market would offer trading space to local businesses.
A planned outside area, including canal-side gardens with a herb garden and beehives, was described by The Very Inc as “a city centre place to sit in nature”.
Proposals also include space for offices and workshops that will be available on flexible terms, a gym, and live music and theatre performances.
“Our passion is for reimagining, reusing and breathing life into historic, derelict buildings and neighbourhoods in this amazing city,” added The Very Inc, which is currently consulting with local people on the project ahead of submitting a planning application.
