GBL International has unveiled a new RTD brand called VK Coast.
The vodka-based drink comes in three flavours - Orange & Passion Fruit, Apple & Mango and Strawberry & Vanilla - and will be boosted by a £10m campaign including advertising, sampling and instore promotions.
The Grocer revealed in March that the brand name had sparked a row over the trademark between GBL International and Bacardi-Martini ahead of the drink’s launch. GBL claimed that its rival had registered a similar name - Coomira Coast - for a new RTD eight days after it bagged VK Coast. GBL asked lawyers to investigate, but has decided against legal action.
GBL MD Steve Perez said the concept had taken a long time to get to market because it was a “fresh alternative”.
He added: “The drink has been produced through close consultation with the trade - rather than being dreamt up by a marketing wiz kid.”
