A truck refrigeration unit claimed to be 50% quieter than a standard model has been unveiled by developers.

Thermo King, a brand of Ingersoll Rand, said the new Whisper option for the SLXe trailer refrigeration unit cut sound by “four decibels adjusted, leading to a significant decrease equivalent to a reduction of the noise energy output by 50%”.

Thermo King claimed this would allow logistic companies to operate in off-peak hours, helping to turn deliveries around faster because of lower traffic congestion.

“We understand the critical role that noise reduction plays in our customers’ success,” said Michel Poinsignon, product leader for trailer and rail refrigeration.
