With the flood of exotic and imported produce available on supermarket shelves 365 days a year, the concept of seasonality is one that is becoming sadly lost to many consumers. Quite frankly I don't want to be able to buy strawberries in December, and I certainly wouldn't want to eat any either.
So the news that an ambitious new grocery chain had plans afoot to help the British public reconnect with the seasons warmed the cockles of my heart this week.
The Farmers' City Market concept is a great idea and one, which if successful, could turn the drudgery of the weekly grocery shop into a seasonal treasure hunt.
The British larder is positively bursting with such a vibrant array of delicious fresh seasonal goodies and we need to shout about it, so come on people get some lovely pears, plums, pepper and pumpkins all fresh sweet and in season now!
