Thorntons is on the hunt for a new chairman. John von Spreckelsen has announced plans to leave the embattled confectioner at some point in the next 12 months.
He has been in the post since June 2006, having previously held roles as chief executive of Budgens and chairman of Somerfield.
His other ongoing appointments include operating partner at Merchant Equity Partners in the UK and chairman of furniture chain But in France.
The new chair will be required to work alongside chief executive Jonathan Hart, who took the reins last year.
Thorntons earlier this month announced a loss of £253,000 for the previous year, which it blamed on the cost of recent store closures.
