Over 20,000 additional convenience stores will be able to access Ubamarket’s ‘Scan, Pay, Go’ app following its integration with new EPOS systems.
The scan and go tech, previously available to 10,000 retailers, has integrated with EdgePOS, Point Four, ITS, M-House, TLM, Solteq, Power EPOS and HTEC.
This will make the app available to stores operating under Nisa, Go Local, Budgens or Costcutter fascias, plus others. James Convenience Retail is also due to trial the app in two stores in January.
The business is also working on a wider rollout with Spar and Central England Co-op across the UK early next year, to 80 and 75 stores respectively from just four and six stores currently.
Ubamarket has continued to build separate versions of the app to reflect each of the retailers’ branding. “The reason we haven’t used one generic Ubamarket branded app is because I think stores are a bit tired of having to promote a third party which isn’t their own,” CEO Will Broome told The Grocer.
“This just works better for the retailers because the customers know and trust the brand more than they do some random new brand they’ve never heard of.”
The Ubamarket app features an aisle sat-nav that offers customers the most efficient route through the store to items on their shopping list. It lets them scan products as they shop and then generates a QR code they can scan at a self checkout.
It has recently undergone developments which facilitate exclusive app-only offers too. This means retailers, wholesalers and suppliers can choose which items to offer app discounts for.
Click & collect and home delivery services have also just been integrated into the solution, offering retailers a “complete omnichannel store branded app”. The retailers can choose which services they wish to deploy. ”It’s designed to give retailers the tools to stay entirely in control of their own destiny,” said Broome.
Nisa head of retail Victoria Lockie said: “We have had some initial discussions with Ubamarket and some of our Nisa partners have engaged with them at an individual store level.
“We are always looking for new and innovative solutions that support our independent Nisa retailers and have a number of strategic partnerships already established.
“At Nisa, we are really keen to work with new suppliers who can give our partners a choice enabling them to find the most suitable solution for their own business model.”
