Broadland Wineries claims to have successfully tapped the trend for low-alcohol wines by selling 2.1 million bottles of its Three Mills range in 10 months.
The fruity British variants, which were launched across selected Asda and Tesco stores in April last year, were introduced to plug "a small gap in the market, which has since continued to grow and grow", said sales and marketing director David Thornhill.
The 8% abv wines are set for further growth this year following their national roll-out in Asda this month. Meanwhile, the company has sold 276,000 bottles of its White House low-alcohol wine, available exclusively in Aldi, since launch in December 2009.
"In 10 months, we have sold nearly as much light wine as the whole sector did in 2000," claimed Thornhill.
