Adult soft drinks specialist Tiger White is planning an assault on the dairy alternative market with a taste of Spain.
The company, best known for its range of upmarket cordials, is introducing Tiger White into the market now - based on the Spanish classic beverage ‘horchata de chufa’.
Made from the ‘tiger roots’ of the sedge plant, the drink also aims to offer an alternative to soya-based drinks which currently lead the dairy-alternative market. The claim ‘soya-free’ is also given greater prominence on pack than ‘dairy-free’.
The drink, initially to be listed in 189 Tesco stores with further rollouts lined up in Budgens, Booths and Holland & Barratt, will be available in one-litre sweetened and unsweetened variants (£1.59 and £1.65).
Commercial manager Roger McDermott said: “The market for horchata de chufa in Spain is huge with 100 million litres sold each year. We’ve refined the traditional recipe for the UK audience and produced it without the use of additives.”
