Wilkin & Sons has entered the snacking market with a six-strong range of fruit & vegetable crisps under the Tiptree jam and marmalade brand.
The snacks, which are currently on trial in the Tiptree jam shop, are available in Pineapple, Pear, Pepper & Courgette, Apple, Beetroot & Parsnip and Tomato & Cucumber flavours (£1.29/14g-20g).
Wilkin & Sons is seeking listings for the vegan-certified range, which is made using only 100% air-dried fruit & veg.
“Tiptree fruit & vegetable crisps are light, tasty, and provide at least one of your ‘5 a day’ portions,” said Wilkin & Sons joint MD Scott Goodfellow.
”They are gluten and dairy-free, retaining fibre and vitamin C. There’s nothing artificial added.”
The new products will join startup brands Emily Crisps and Nim’s Fruit Crisps in the fruit & veg crisp category. Since launching in 2014, Emily Crisps has won listings in more than 1,000 retail locations worldwide including Tesco, Ocado, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s. Last year, Kent-based Nim’s won listings in Tesco and Ocado and is now eyeing export markets after securing £150,000 bank funding.
In 2016, Wilkin & Sons partnered with English gin brand Haymans to make its first foray into alcoholic drinks. The brand launched three fruit-flavoured liqueurs, English Raspberry, English Damson and Little Scarlet Strawberry, into 60 East of England Co-op stores.
