Tobacco remains the biggest category in fmcg by some distance, and is a key driver of footfall for retailers large and small. However, it is also subject to many legislative challenges and changes. This will be brought into sharp focus next month with the ban on menthol and flavoured cigarettes and rolling tobacco coming into force on 20 May.
Many adult smokers will be seeking out alternative products and retailers and their staff will need to be clued up with the answers to their customers’ questions, as well as a range of other options.
To help retailers, The Grocer, along with sister brands Convenience Store and Forecourt Trader, has put together an expert panel to discuss the changes in range needed to meet modern shopper needs.
The panel will also look at innovative new methods of nicotine delivery that can help retailers comply with new legislation and changing consumer preferences. This is your chance to have your questions answered regarding the future of tobacco retailing.
Sponsored by Philip Morris and hosted by Convenience Store editor David Rees, the panel is made up of:
- Peter Nixon, managing director, Philip Morris Ltd
- Alice Dolling, senior insight analyst, Him MCA
- Bally Singh, owner, Charles of Belgravia convenience store
“The imminent ban on menthol and capsule cigarettes is one of the biggest measures to ever impact the tobacco category, and once again retailers and their staff will be in the frontline when it comes to communicating the changes and suggesting alternatives to their regular purchase,” said Rees.
“Our webinar aims to answer any questions retailers might have about the transition, and also to paint a picture of what the tobacco and nicotine product category could look like in the future.”
The webinar will take place on 5 May 2020 at 10am.
