Sainsbury has headhunted B&Q's Keith Evans for the post of non-foods director. Evans, who was trading director, showroom and building at B&Q, will report to Sainsbury's assistant md Stuart Mitchell. Group chief executive Peter Davis said: "I am delighted to welcome Keith to Sainsbury where his expertise will be of immense value to us as we continue to develop our non food offering." Evans joined Sainsbury as it launched its redesigned Savacentre format. The first store at Northfield in Birmingham will have almost one third of its floorspace dedicated to non-food, the largest proportion of any Sainsbury store of this size. Evans worked for Marks and Spencer for 19 years, joining in 1980 and occupying trading and retail positions before becoming operations manager, homeware, in 1996. He became a buying executive for homeware in 1997 and took the role of business unit director, homeware, in 1999. {{PEOPLE MOVES }}
