Sainsbury's is to introduce Travelex bureau de change kiosks in 100 stores by the end of 2009.
The initiative follows the successful trial of a travel money kiosk at Sainsbury's store in Cromwell Road, London, in March. Now plans are afoot to open bureaux at Sainsbury's stores nationwide, with 14 units planned by the end of this year. They will appear in a cross-section of stores, both city centre and out of town, launching this month in Warrington, Cheadle, Rugby and Wigan.
"A strong pound combined with frequent short haul trips have kept demand in the UK for foreign spending money high," said Steve O'Donovan, regional divisional director at outsourcing at Travelex.
"We've seen a strong take-up from Sainsbury's customers that will continue to build as more stores offer the service."
