Sir, I note with interest Alan Toft's assessment of the marketplace as "an inferno" (The Grocer, April 8, p10). As an independent grocer/convenience retailer of some 20 years' standing, I would like to back up his war-cry! My van sales terms from Manor Bakeries are nothing short of scandalous. I regularly see Mr Kipling/Cadbury products in my local Tesco retailing at lower prices than I myself can purchase for! That is when I can actually get them from the van salesman in the first place, Cadbury's 5 Flake cake bars being a prime case in point. This fantastic new line is nowhere to be seen for the likes of me (I have actually gone on my van man's vehicle to check - at his invitation). However, it is retailing in Tesco at only 99p on specially produced display stands (in hugh quantities). With my discount of rsp less 23.2%, I won't even be able to buy them at 99p. Our sector is a vital route to the consumer for major manufacturers so get into the real world, Manor Bakeries, and treat us with the respect we duly deserve!! Yours frustratedly M Iqbal (Proprietor) Dadson Food & Wine Wilmslow Cheshire. {{LETTERS }}
