?Tesco extended its fair trade nut offer in December last year. It claimed more than 13,000 farmers in Malawi, Mozambique and India will benefit from the decision to launch a 200g Fairtrade peanut and raisin mix and Fairtrade natural cashews in

150g packs. The move was underpinned by

good sales of Fairtrade Brazil nuts, which Tesco launched last March. The product took a 25% share of Brazil nut sales last year, according to Tesco. The fair trade message is reinforced with an on-pack picture of a grower, and also features a message about the poverty many of them face.

Created using fair trade fruit sourced from AgroFair, the smoothies are gently pasteurised and bottled in sterile conditions, giving them a six-month shelf life and the option of storage at ambient temperatures. The smoothies are available in mango & orange, pineapple & passion fruit and blueberry blend flavours, and they come in 330ml clear, 100%-recyclable bottles, priced at £1.59. Each contains the equivalent of two of the recommended five-a-day portions of fruit and vegetables, according to the company.
