Tropicana has unveiled a trio of ‘Lean’ juices it claims contain 40% less sugar and calories than the average fruit juice.
The flavours – Citrus Fruit, Mixed Berries and Tropical Fruit – are billed as containing no added sugar or sweetener (rsp: £2.75/900ml).
They were made by purposefully selecting “different fruit which, when combined, deliver delicious-tasting and well-balanced juices”, which were then blended with water to “ensure the balance of great taste with lower sugar content”, said the brand’s owner PepsiCo.
It would “appeal to shoppers looking for delicious and convenient products, without having to worry about sugar content”, said PepsiCo juice marketing director Steven Hind.
Tropicana has also relaunched its Essentials range for the second time in two years with a new name – Tropicana + – and design playing up its functional credentials.
The switch, which will see the range move into bottles made from 50% recycled plastic and their recipes updated, would “better resonate with shoppers looking for added benefits from their juice drinks”, added PepsiCo.
The range now consists of Vitamin Victory, Berry Boost, Power Punch and Viva Vitality flavours.
Essentials was previously revamped in 2018 after the Tropicana brand suffered a sales decline of £22.8m, falling to £200.5m [Nielsen 52 w/e 9 September 2017]. Tropicana has since managed to reclaim some of those sales, racking up sales of £208.9m over the 52 weeks to 25 January 2020 [Nielsen].
