Suffolk-based grower Tuddenham Hall Foods, the UK’s largest asparagus producer, has been acquired by Bomford of Stratford-upon-Avon.
Bomford will take over its contracts to supply Tesco, Sainsbury and Waitrose.
It farms 1,000ha, growing asparagus as well as runner beans, peas, broad and dwarf beans, salad onions and sprouts.
Tuddenham Hall farms 121ha of asparagus with an annual turnover in excess of £1m.
Asparagus sales are rocketing, especially during the British season when it is heavily promoted by the multiples. Growers are increasing planting to match demand.
