Tulip International is to close its Wellingborough cooked sliced meat factory. Production will be transferred to Kings Lynn and Brøndby, in Denmark. The move is a setback for added value meat lines. Output is 80 tonnes a week of retail product ­ British pigmeat, imported chicken and some Brazilian corned beef are all packed at Wellingborough. The move is seen as part of Danish Crown's consolidation after the 1998 merger with Vestjyske.
