The Christmas dinners of Ocado customers in London have been left in peril after their orders from the online supermarket arrived without any frozen or chilled items.

Ocado Retail confirmed to The Grocer a “temporary issue” at one of its CFCs had led to the orders arriving without turkey or most of the trimmings.

The issue – first reported by London Centric – led to many disgruntled shoppers venting on social media.

“Just got text from Ocado saying ‘a few’ items missing from my Christmas order. By which they mean EVERY SINGLE FRESH ITEM. Seriously?! Looks like we’re having Dreamies curry for our festive feast,” said one shopper on X.

Another posted: “What’s the point in me ordering weeks in advance, waiting up to book a Christmas delivery slot, only for tons of stuff to be substituted or even just missing. For the second year running, there won’t be a third!”

Another said: “I’ll be going back to Waitrose online next year. You’ve made what should be a stress-free delivery, stressful. You are rubbish.”

Ocado was the first supermarket to open access to Christmas delivery slots this year, initially to selected holders of its paid-for delivery subscription Smart Pass. It staggered access across passholders, with delivery slots booked for between 20-24 December requiring a minimum spend of £90.

“The elves at HQ have been busy,” said Ocado Retail CEO Hannah Gibson at the time. “Our Christmas shop is officially live, our coveted delivery slots are being released in waves, and customers are getting into the festive spirit.”

The online supermarket apologised for the issue impacting orders.

“We are aware that a small proportion of orders were not delivered as expected,” Ocado Retail said in a statement. “This does not meet our usual high standards and we understand the inconvenience this will have caused, especially at this time of year. We are proactively reaching out to apologise to those affected.”
