Uber Eats has unveiled the first pet shop to appear on its platform, Dr Doolittles 2, promising users in south west London petfood delivery within an average of 30 minutes.
While petfood can already be ordered for delivery on demand from some convenience stores and courier apps, Dr Doolittles 2 is understood to be the only dedicated pet store on such a platform.
The store is offering a wide variety of products including cat and dogfood, toys, collars, harnesses, leads, treats and other pet accessories.
“Ordering via Uber Eats is the perfect option for those without a car to get the bulky bags of petfood delivered directly to their door,” Uber Eats said.
Sunjiv Shah, general manager of Uber Eats in the UK, called the move “just the latest expansion beyond restaurants for the app”.
Uber Eats has over the course of the pandemic struck up and expanded delivery partnerships with Asda, Sainsbury’s, Iceland and McColl’s.
“We have a wide selection available for humans, ranging from supermarkets and grocery stores to restaurants and cafés, so we thought it was about time we catered to our furry friends,” Shah said.
The offering is considerably faster than alternative online petfood retailers, whose fastest delivery option is typically next day.
“We’re delighted to be the first pet shop to launch on the Uber Eats app,” said Stefano Salles, owner of Dr Doolittles 2. “This service is ideal for anyone who’s run out of dogfood or would like to treat their pet to a new toy. Simply hop on the app and have whatever your pet needs delivered to your door in 30 minutes.”
