Booths will begin stocking the first UK-grown frozen flageolet beans this week following a deal with Yorkshire grower Scholes.
The beans, which are mostly grown in France and Italy and normally appear either dried or in tins, will be shelled, transported and frozen within two hours of them being picked, Scholes said.
"Booths has recognised that we are offering a unique product and has been very proactive to make sure that it is the first retailer to have UK-produced frozen flageolet beans on shelves", said Scholes' sales and marketing executive Mark Southwell.
