Global exports of South African wine are set to receive R17m (£1.7m) of marketing support this year.
The lion's share of the cash will be directed at UK consumers as the country is South African wine's leading export market.
North America, Germany and the Netherlands will also get some backing.
The export funds come from the South African Wine Industry Trust which is providing R10m and a statutory levy of the wine exporting companies which will provide the rest.
General manager of SAWIT Marthinus Saunderson said: "We don't have the cash to match what Australia is doing, we just have to make it work harder."
