Unilever has acquired Russian ice cream company Inmarko for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition would strengthen Unilever's portfolio and competitive position in Russia, which is one of its priority countries, Unilever said.
Inmarko is the leading ice cream company in Russia with a turnover of around E115m (£86.5m) in 2007. It makes and sells more than 15 ice cream brands from three factories in Russia, employing 4,500 people.
“We will put Inmarko at the heart of our ice cream business in Russia and build on its successful strategy, powerful portfolio and great talent and know-how,” added Vindi Banga, Unilever's president of foods.
“At the same time we will be looking together for opportunities to enrich and strengthen its competitiveness with Unilever's global scale and category expertise.”
